Israel’s Iron Dome Defence System More Fragile Than Glass: Iranian President

The Israel’s Iron Dome defence system has been a critical aspect of the country’s military strategy for years, designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired into Israeli territory.

However, recent developments in the Middle East have cast doubts on the effectiveness of this defence mechanism. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared during a cabinet session that the latest retaliatory missile strike launched by Iran, as part of Operation True Promise II, revealed that the Israel’s Iron Dome defence system is “more fragile than glass.”

His remarks were a direct response to Israel’s military actions and the ongoing tension between the two nations.

The Fragility of Israel’s Iron Dome Defence System

The Israel’s Iron Dome defence system has long been hailed as a revolutionary technology in missile defence. Since its implementation, the system has been able to intercept a large percentage of the rockets fired into Israel, providing a sense of security for its citizens.

However, President Pezeshkian’s statement that the system is “more fragile than glass” following Iran’s missile attacks raises concerns about the actual effectiveness of the Iron Dome, especially in light of advanced missile technology deployed by Iran.

Iran’s missile barrage targeted key military intelligence and spying bases in the occupied territories, leading to significant damage and widespread alarm across Israel.

Sirens blared across Tel Aviv and explosions were heard in al-Quds (Jerusalem) and other areas as the Israel’s Iron Dome defence system struggled to intercept the incoming missiles.

Reports from the Negev, Sharon, and other locations confirmed direct hits, casting doubts on the dome’s capacity to shield Israel from increasingly sophisticated missile threats.

The Retaliatory Strike and its Implications

The missile attack that tested the Israel’s Iron Dome defence system was a direct retaliation for the assassination of key figures allied with Iran, including Hamas’s chief Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan.

These assassinations, which occurred in the context of escalating conflict, were viewed as a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a threat to its national security.

President Pezeshkian emphasized during his remarks that while Iran does not seek war, it is unafraid of responding decisively to any provocations. He highlighted that Iran’s retaliation serves as a clear message to Israel and the international community that the Islamic Republic will not compromise on the safety, pride, and dignity of its people.

The Israel’s Iron Dome defence system failed to prevent significant damage in multiple regions, showcasing the vulnerability of the system to new and enhanced missile technologies.

The Iranian president also noted the double standards of international organizations and Western countries in their failure to condemn Israel’s actions, particularly the assassination of Martyr Haniyeh in Tehran, which was a direct affront to Iran’s sovereignty.

Pezeshkian criticized Western nations for asking Iran to exercise restraint while remaining silent on the continued expansion of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and Lebanon. This perceived inaction has fuelled further regional tensions, with Iran taking a hardline stance on defending its interests.

The Future of Israel’s Iron Dome

The effectiveness of the Israel’s Iron Dome defence system has come into question with these recent events, not only by Iran but also by other adversaries in the region.

The missile barrage that overwhelmed the Iron Dome proves that while it is an effective defence mechanism, it is not impervious. As missile technology evolves, the capacity of systems like the Iron Dome to counter these threats must be continuously enhanced.

President Pezeshkian’s remarks highlight Iran’s determination to defend its national interests and ensure that any attacks on its sovereignty will be met with strong responses. He warned that any future mistakes by Israel will be met with even more “crushing” responses, further challenging the capabilities of the Israel’s Iron Dome defence system.

As tensions continue to escalate, the ongoing conflict has become a focal point for both regional and international observers. The failures of the Israel’s Iron Dome defence system during this operation may prompt Israel to reevaluate its defence strategies, investing in new technologies or enhancing the existing ones to cope with the growing missile threats from Iran and its allies.
