5th Grader Black Student at Mann Elementary School Receives Monkey with a Toilet and Poop as a Gift for Fundraising

The recent incident at Mann Elementary School in Long Beach, California, has ignited controversy after a Black fifth-grade student, Genesis Thomas, received a Monkey with a Toilet and Poop as a Gift her fundraising efforts.

The child had successfully raised $160 for the school’s fundraiser, expecting a suitable reward. Instead, she was handed a gift that her family found deeply inappropriate and offensive. The case has raised concerns about racial insensitivity and whether such gifts should be part of a school’s prize selection process.

Genesis Thomas’s great-uncle, Craig Polk, expressed his outrage upon learning about the gift.
