PM Modi Honoured with Global Peace Award for Minority Upliftment in US

Celebrating inclusivity and minority welfare, Indian-American minorities recognize PM Modi’s leadership with a prestigious award in Maryland.

The Association of Indian American Minorities (AIAM), recently established in Maryland, has marked a significant milestone by honoring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the ‘Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Global Peace Award for Minority Upliftment.’

This accolade, presented in absentia during the AIAM’s inauguration at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church, underscores PM Modi’s contributions to fostering inclusive development and promoting minority welfare.

The event, held in collaboration with Washington Adventist University, highlights a growing recognition among the Indian diaspora of India’s strides toward interfaith harmony and equal opportunity under his leadership.

A Milestone for Indian-American Unity

The establishment of AIAM marks a crucial step in fostering unity among Indian-American minority communities. Comprising diverse groups such as Sikhs, Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Hindus, AIAM aims to strengthen communal bonds and promote cultural understanding across the United States.

Renowned Sikh philanthropist Jasdip Singh, the Founder and Chairman of AIAM, emphasized the importance of collective identity and cooperation. Singh highlighted that the organization seeks to address issues faced by Indian minorities in the U.S. while celebrating their shared heritage and promoting peace.

AIAM’s diverse seven-member Board of Directors represents various Indian minority communities, ensuring broad-based representation and inclusivity.

Board members Baljinder Singh and Dr. Sukhpal Dhanoa (Sikhs), Pawan Bezwada and Elisha Pulivarti (Christians), Dipak Thakker (Hindu), Juned Qazi (Muslim), and Nissim Reuben (Jewish) bring unique perspectives to the organization.

This collaborative leadership underscores AIAM’s mission to bridge divides and foster a sense of belonging among Indian-American minorities.

Recognizing PM Modi’s Leadership in Minority Welfare

Jasdip Singh’s address at the award ceremony highlighted PM Modi’s commitment to inclusive governance. He lauded Modi’s vision for India as a nation where every citizen, regardless of religion, caste, or sect, enjoys equal opportunities. Singh noted that under Modi’s leadership, India has embraced an all-inclusive approach, setting a global benchmark for minority welfare and social harmony.

This sentiment was echoed by Nissim Reuben, an Indian-American Jewish leader, who praised India’s long-standing tradition of interfaith harmony. Reuben emphasized India’s unique history of religious tolerance, noting that the country has never experienced anti-Semitism in its 2,000-year history.

He cited examples of Jewish educational institutions in India, such as the 120-year-old Jewish girls’ school in Calcutta and the Sassoon schools in Mumbai, where Muslim students form the majority. These institutions, located in Muslim-majority neighborhoods, stand as symbols of India’s resilience and commitment to communal harmony.

Reuben further highlighted India’s historic ties with the Jewish community, which predate the modern diplomatic relationship with Israel. He credited PM Modi for bringing global attention to this legacy, fostering a deeper understanding of India’s pluralistic ethos.

“Our bonds with the Jewish people are ancient,” Reuben remarked, adding that PM Modi’s speeches have played a pivotal role in showcasing India’s rich tradition of interfaith coexistence.

A Legacy of Peace and Harmony

The decision to honor PM Modi with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Global Peace Award carries profound symbolism. Named after the iconic civil rights leader, the award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to peace and minority upliftment. By conferring this honor on PM Modi, AIAM acknowledges his efforts to promote inclusivity and social justice in a diverse nation like India.

India’s commitment to interfaith harmony is deeply rooted in its history and cultural fabric. As Reuben pointed out, even during periods of severe conflict in the Middle East, India’s Jewish institutions have remained untouched, reflecting the nation’s enduring spirit of tolerance. This resilience is a testament to India’s pluralistic society, where diverse religious and cultural communities coexist peacefully.

Jasdip Singh’s remarks underscored the global significance of India’s model of inclusivity. He noted that PM Modi’s leadership has inspired not only Indians but also the diaspora communities around the world. AIAM’s recognition of Modi’s contributions highlights a growing awareness of India’s efforts to promote minority welfare on the global stage.

A New Chapter for Indian-American Minorities

The inauguration of AIAM and the honoring of PM Modi with the Global Peace Award mark the beginning of a new chapter for Indian-American minorities.

This event serves as a reminder of the importance of unity, inclusivity, and cultural pride. It also reflects the Indian diaspora’s commitment to celebrating their heritage while promoting peace and social justice.

AIAM’s mission goes beyond recognizing individual achievements; it aims to foster a sense of community among Indian-Americans and address the challenges they face.

By bringing together diverse voices and perspectives, the organization seeks to build bridges and promote understanding within the broader American society.

As AIAM embarks on its journey, the recognition of PM Modi’s contributions serves as an inspiration for future initiatives. It underscores the importance of inclusive leadership and the enduring value of interfaith harmony.

For Indian-American minorities, this event is not just a celebration of their heritage but also a call to action—to work together toward a more just and inclusive world.
