Father Dies On Father’s Day While Saving Two Daughters From Drowning Off Fort Lauderdale

Father’s Day is meant to be a celebration of love, strength, and the unshakable bond between a father and his children. For 33-year-old Antwon Wilson, it became the day he made the ultimate sacrifice. While enjoying the day with his family on a Fort Lauderdale beach, Antwon lost his life in a heroic attempt of Saving Two Daughters From Drowning. What was meant to be a joyful family outing ended in sorrow, but also in a moving reminder of a father’s unwavering courage and love.

The events unfolded just after 7 p.m. at the beach near the B Ocean Resort. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue received frantic 911 calls reporting a possible drowning. At that point, the city’s official ocean rescue team had already gone off duty, but responders didn’t hesitate. According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Daniel Moran, first responders quickly turned their vehicles around and raced to the scene without delay.

A Father’s Final Act of Love

Witnesses said Antwon Wilson noticed that two of his daughters were in distress in the water. Without hesitating, he ran into the ocean to rescue them. The water was rough, and the conditions challenging. One of the daughters was visibly struggling against the strong current, which made the situation increasingly dangerous.

As Wilson battled the waves to reach his children, another man, later identified as Eslam Saad, saw what was happening and decided to help. He jumped into the water without a second thought, even though his wife stood nearby. “I didn’t even tell my wife I’m going in the water again. I just jumped into the water,” Saad later told WSVN.

Saad reached one of the children and tried to keep her calm amid the panic. “Please, I know you are in panic. Please, do not do anything crazy, I will try my best to get you out,” he told her. Saad did all he could to bring her closer to the shore. When they got near, lifeguards who had returned to the beach took over the rescue.

The children were eventually brought to safety. According to police, both girls were awake and responsive when they were taken to the hospital. Saad also made it back to shore, though he too had been overwhelmed by the water at one point. Still, he managed to recover and assist in the rescue.

A Community Mourns a Hero

As Saad and the children were being pulled to safety, Wilson had already gone underwater. Authorities reported that he did not resurface for several minutes. Rescue teams found him and brought him to shore, where paramedics began administering life-saving procedures. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center.

The news of Wilson’s death sent shockwaves through the community and across social media, where people expressed grief and admiration for his bravery. He had given his life in an act of pure love and instinct—a father putting his children’s safety above all else.

Saad, who had also risked his life in the rescue, was devastated to learn what had happened. “Once I got into the hospital and they made sure I’m okay, I was trying to ask about them, they told me her dad was already gone,” he said in a heart-wrenching interview. His voice, like many others, reflected not just sorrow, but awe at Wilson’s selflessness.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, although Fort Lauderdale Police have stated that it appears to be an accidental drowning. The tragedy underscores how quickly a seemingly safe outing can turn into a crisis, especially in the unpredictable conditions of the open ocean.

Remembering the Man Behind the Sacrifice

While many now know Antwon Wilson as a hero, he was more than that. He was a father, a friend, and a man who valued his family above all else. Stories are emerging from those who knew him personally—stories of a man who was hardworking, kind-hearted, and devoted to his children.

His decision to enter the water was instinctive, driven by the deep love he had for his daughters. He didn’t hesitate, didn’t weigh the risks—he simply acted, and in doing so, saved the most precious people in his life at the cost of his own.

In the wake of this loss, friends and family members are organizing tributes to honor his memory. Plans are reportedly underway for a community memorial service. Some are also calling for increased lifeguard presence and safety measures on Florida’s beaches to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The story of Antwon Wilson is more than a news headline—it’s a profound example of human bravery and the power of a parent’s love. His death, though tragic, has brought people together in admiration and sorrow, and has reminded many of the fragile yet powerful nature of life.

As we reflect on what happened on that fateful Father’s Day, we’re reminded that heroes are not always those with capes or medals. Sometimes, they are everyday people who make split-second decisions that reveal the very best of what it means to be human. Antwon Wilson’s final act was one of pure courage. He died doing what any father hopes they would have the strength to do—protect their children, no matter the cost. And in that, his legacy will live on.
