Opal Suchata Chuangsri, a 21-year-old Thai model and beauty pageant titleholder, was crowned Miss World 2025 on May 31, 2025, at the HITEX Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad, India. This victory marks a historic moment for Thailand, as she became only the second Thai woman to win the prestigious Miss World title, following Pornthip Nakhirunkanok’s win in 1988. The 72nd edition of the pageant saw her triumph over 111 contestants from around the globe, succeeding Miss World 2024, Krystyna Pyszková of the Czech Republic.

Early Life and Educational Pursuits

Born on March 20, 2003, in the picturesque coastal city of Phuket, Thailand, Opal Suchata Chuangsri grew up in a family deeply rooted in the hospitality industry. Her parents, Thanet Donkamnerd and Supatra Chuangsri, own and operate the Homeplace Hotel in Phuket’s Old Town. This environment instilled in her a profound appreciation for culture and communication from an early age.

Opal’s academic journey began at Kajonkietsuksa School, followed by her upper secondary education at Triam Udom Suksa School in Bangkok, where she majored in Chinese under the Arts program. Her passion for international relations led her to Thammasat University, where she is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, focusing on International Relations. Fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese, Opal embodies the qualities of a global citizen, prepared to engage with diverse cultures and perspectives.

A Journey Marked by Resilience and Advocacy

At the age of 16, Opal faced a life-altering challenge when she was diagnosed with a 10-centimeter benign breast tumor. The experience of undergoing surgery and the emotional toll it took became a catalyst for her advocacy work. Determined to transform her personal ordeal into a platform for change, she launched the “Opal For Her” campaign.

This initiative focuses on breast health awareness, early detection, and empowering women to take charge of their health. Opal’s advocacy extends beyond awareness campaigns. She has collaborated with organizations such as the Foundation for Cancer Care at Siriraj Hospital and the National Cancer Institute.

Through these partnerships, she has co-designed T-shirts, accessories, and special bras for breast cancer patients, with all proceeds directed towards supporting women’s health initiatives. Her commitment to women’s empowerment also includes supporting education and entrepreneurship programs in rural Thailand.

Ascending the Pageant Ladder

Opal’s foray into the world of beauty pageants began in 2021 with her participation in Miss Rattanakosin. Her poise and dedication quickly garnered attention, leading to her participation in Miss Universe Thailand 2022, where she was the youngest contestant and secured the third runner-up position, along with the Miss Natural Beauty award.

Representing Thailand at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant in Mexico City, she achieved the third runner-up position and received the Voice for Change – Silver award. However, her decision to participate in Miss World 2025 led to her removal from the Miss Universe 2024 third runner-up position due to contractual obligations.

Undeterred, Opal was appointed Miss World Thailand 2025 by Tero Entertainment and TPN Global. Her participation in the Miss World 2025 pageant was marked by excellence, as she won the Multimedia challenge, securing her placement in the Top 40.
